You will find The Alma in the centre of Linton village, close to the spired church of St. Mary with it's ancient yew trees.
This is a free house - run by Graham and Linda Webb since 1997 - in a true traditional way with no meals being served. Emphasis is on providing a convivial atmosphere where everyone, male or female, feels comfortable from any age group and from all walks in life. There is a pool table and darts board. There are no fruit machines, nor is there a juke-box. Background music is provided and may be requested.
The pub gets its name from the Crimean War and the battle of the river Alma in 1854. Parts of the building date from the early 17th century, but the feel inside is Victorian. There are two bars.
Just occasionally, food will be prepared for a special event or function, but the aim is primarily to serve quality drinks in top condition. Between the years 2001-2010 The Alma has been recognised five times in the CAMRA annual Pub of the Year awards in Herefordshire:
| 2001 | Second Place |
| 2002 | First Place |
| 2004 | Best Country Pub |
| 2005 | Joint Winner and Best Country Pub |
| 2010 | Second Place |
Regular Real Ales include Butcombe Bitter, Black Pear (Malvern Hills Brewery) and JHB, with two, three and sometimes four other ales as well. The guest beers, selected by way of popular demand, tend to be drawn from the smaller and relatively local breweries.
This is our home. It is not just a pub with living accommodation. We welcome everyone who respects this!

The Alma also helps sponsor this festival (originally named "Linton Festival of Music and Ale"). The Festival is held each year in the grounds at the rear of the pub over the weekend closest to mid-summer's day.
The festival is very well run by an enthusiastic committee of volunteers. Their efforts have seen the festival go from strength to strength with more famous bands appearing, increased audiences from year to year and more money for local causes from the proceeds. Recent years have seen sell-out audiences of over 1000 visitors. A larger beer tent and token system have combined to keep everything flowing!
An informal (mainly acoustic) music night is held on the first Thursday each of month from around 9pm. It is hosted by house band Almageddon and regularly supported by other local musicians and bands such as The Fylthe. Anyone interested in playing or listening needs only to come along.
There is an (occasional) quiz night on Sunday evenings - every other month. Teams of up to 4 people at £1 per person and prizes for the top teams. A light-hearted evening - meet people here or come with friends. Call Graham for dates on 01989 720355.
Telephone Graham if you are interested in joining one of our teams - pool, crib, darts or quiz - or wanting to arrange a friendly match.
Acoustic Roots Festivals were held in late Summer of 2009 and 2010 - see www.acousticrootslinton.co.uk for further details.
The first Linton Summer Sessions were held in August 2010 - see below for further details.
