Background

The Linton Festival®, now in its 11th year, is run by a team of local volunteers and is non-profit organisation with a policy of supporting local charitable and other voluntary groups. Since 2001, the festival has raised in excess of £70,000, most of which has been distributed to the benefit of the local community.

In return for the Festivals support, many of the groups mentioned below help with the running of the Festival over the weekend. The Festival Committee would like to thank the groups for their continued help and support.

Linton Festival® 2012

Preparations for the 12th music festival are already well progressed and the 3-day event will be held in the extensive grounds of The Alma Inn, Linton, near Ross-on-Wye between 15-17 June 2012.

The line-up so far includes Gandalf Murphy and The Grand Slambovians from USA, King Mo from Holland, 24 Pesos, Red River Blues, Cadillac Kings, Oli Brown, The Mustangs, Eric Bell, Larry Miller Band, King King, Chantel McGregor, Bernie Marsden Band, Stratus plus other surprise guests TBA. Tickets for the last years music festival sold out six weeks before the event. 2011 Charities

Charity Donation Evening

Representatives of 12 local charities and groups gathered at the Alma Inn, Linton on 10 November to receive donations totalling £10,000. The money was raised as a result of the Linton Festival® held earlier in the year in June 2011.

David Long, Chairman of the festival organising committee, presented the cheques. During the presentation he wished members of the nominated charities continued success in their money raising efforts.

The festival chairman thanked the festival sponsors for their continued support and made special mention of other, groups and members of the local community for their help and support of the annual music event.

A total of £10,000 was presented to the following charities, groups and organisations:

County Air Ambulance - £2,000

Serving an area of 8000 square miles and with a population of over 8 million, the County Air Ambulance Trust supports all people travelling through or living in Herefordshire. www.countyairambulancetrust.co.uk

Hope for Tomorrow - £2,000

Hope for Tomorrow is a national cancer charity dedicated to bringing vital mobile chemotherapy treatment closer to patients homes. www.hopefortomorrow.org.uk

James Hopkins Trust - £1,000

The James Hopkins Trust is a charity which provides practical help for severely disabled, life threatened and life limited young children with nursing needs, aged 5 years and under, living in Gloucestershire. www.jameshopkinstrust.org.uk

Hope Support Services - £1,000

The Hope Support Services, based in Ross-on-Wye, is a Herefordshire charity set up to support young people and children when a close family member is diagnosed with a life threatening illness. www.hopesupportservices.org.uk

Pied Piper - £1,000

The charity was started in 1992 to improve the lives of sick children in Gloucestershire and was initially created to fund a new childrens hospital for the county. www.piedpiperappeal.co.uk

Salters Hill Trust - £500

The Salters Hill Charity, based in Ledbury, provides services for people with a learning disability and promotes choice, independence, respect, dignity and responsible lifestyle choices. www.saltershill.org.uk

St John Ambulance- £500

St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved. www.sja.org.uk

St Michaels Hospice - £500

St Michael's Hospice, Hereford,  is committed to providing specialist palliative care for people who have active and progressive life-limiting conditions and support for their families and friends. www.st-michaels-hospice.org.uk

Linton Church - £400

St Mary's church has a strong support and also runs a successful childrens Sunday Club in the Village Hall.The parish was blessed in the 19th century by Reverend Edward Palin, great-grandfather of the comic actor.

Gorsley Pre-School - £300

A small, local nursery that provides an intimate and friendly environment for pre-school children and toddlers, allowing them to learn and grow. www.gorsleypreschool.com

Aston Ingham Scout Group

The scouts have been one of the main benefactors from the festival with the money donated they have been able to buy new tents, cookers and start renovating the scout hut by putting in a new wooden floor..

Salter's Hill, Pound Farm, Gorsley

Salter's Hill is a charitable organisation for the benefit of adults with learning disabilities. In the past the farm has used the money donated to them to buy a cow which has since had a calf. This year the money will go towards building work to create three new flats for the residents.

Herefordshire Wild Life Trust

This is a new charity that the festival is supporting.

Tujuane Kenya/UK student exchange

This charity supports students from three local secondary schools to take part in exchange visits to Kenya.

Linton Village Community

Each year the festival will support a project in the Village of Linton. This year we are making a donation to the Church Bell Fund. In the past money has been donated to the church, Village Hall and the Parish Council towards work needed to restore the Village pound.

Gorsley Youth Club.

S.C.B.U The special care baby unit in Hereford Hospital.
