The Bands - 2010 FestivalHeadline Bands for the 2010 Festival..Big Blind (NL)
Dutch band Big Blind return to kick start the 2010 festival. Since
appearing at Linton in 2008 the band has matured with a closer, tighter
playing style and more varied sound. 2009 was a great year for the band
and their trajectory has continued onwards and upwards; their 2nd album
‘Circus Left Town’ was released to international acclaim and they have
just scooped the 2009 Dutch National Blues Band Award. Ian Siegal Band
Ian Siegal makes an overdue return to Linton on Friday Night. One of
the most prodigiously talented, critically acclaimed and inventive
British artists to emerge in recent years, Siegal is renowned for his
live performances and lauded for his recordings. His latest album
"Broadside" was awarded MOJO's 2009 pick of the year with songs “awash
with wit, lust and distraction”. The Hoax
Arguably the most influential British blues band of the last 20
years, The Hoax exploded onto the British scene in 1991, sweeping all
before them with a ferocious blend of energy, excitement and sheer
musical ability to establish themselves as one of the most exciting live
acts of the nineties - Q magazine citing that the last time Englishmen
played with such fire and conviction, they had names like The Yardbirds,
John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and The Rolling Stones!
www.myspace.com/thehoaxband Rory Ellis (Aus)
Rory Ellis is an Australian singer/songwriter. Impossible to pigeonhole, he is not blues, folk or country, but fusion of the three. With heaps of stories to tell and a deep growl of a voice that seems to come out of the ground itself (think Chris Rea, but a lot deeper voiced), he’s one of that group of musicians that just are! Nico Backton & Wizards of Blues
Spotted by the LintonAwayTeam (Jackie) at the 2009 Cahors Festival in France, Nico Backton and the Wizards of Blues are another one of those bands we had to bring to Linton. Considered to be among the very best of acoustic bands, their music crosses the United States from the deep South to the cold up North, from dusty cotton fields to the screaming streets of Chicago and is wrapped in the soul of the original bluesmen. Eugene Hideaway-Bridges
Texas out of Louisiana singer / guitarist Eugene Hideaway-Bridges
plays with the grace and dignity of BB King and style of Robert Cray, as
well as being one of the best soul singers around, with gospel inflected
arrangements giving him a sound reminiscent of the late, great Sam
Cooke.

Hokie Joint are well known in the Benelux countries (we were among
the 6000 who saw them blow the roof off the tent at the 2009 Peer
festival), and now there is a real buzz about them in the UK press &
media, with many commentators tipping them for the top. A super cool
five piece led by charismatic singer Jojo Burgess and ace harmonica
player Giles King, they are an amazingly vibrant, stimulating live band,
harking back to the club scene of the sixties, but with a distinctively
original modern approach.. The Stumble
Linton’s favourite band – in one word superb! If you haven’t seen them before then what you get is classic Chicago-style blues featuring the stunning guitar work of Colin Black & Johnny Spencer. If you have seen them previously then you know they are the complete outfit, combining stage presence and superb musicianship with stunningly original material. Catch them live again at Linton 2010 - you’ll be glad you did! Ten Years After
Ten Years After became one of the biggest names and the most
explosive quartet on the world music stage and even though they have
been rocking the world for over 40 years, their music has never grown
old or out of fashion, and they still perform with the energy and
enthusiasm they had when the fire was first lit way back in 1967. Northsyde
Formerly known as Funkydory this band has forged a reputation as one of the most original sounding bands on the scene - edgy, soul infused blues and funk with attitude! Led by Lorna Reilly’s impassioned vocals, they set about heir business in style. Whether funking up an existing tune or playing one of their own compositions it’s a distinctive sound – definitely a band to catch. The Seatsniffers featuring Mike Sanchez
The Seatsniffers have been the reigning kings of Belgium’s roots
music for the past decade. One of the most popular, longest running and
most international roots rock band in mainland Europe. Infused with the
spirit of five decades of rock 'n' roll their music is best described as
an explosive cocktail of rock and roll, rhythm & blues, rockabilly,
soul, gut-bucket blues and ska. They don't play punk, but their songs
and live shows have a generous dose of frantic punk intensity and
attitude!
www.seatsniffers.be Ruby Turner
Ruby Turner is truly the genuine article. Blessed with a voice that
can breathe life and meaning into any song, artists as varied as Brian
Ferry, UB40, Steve Winwood and Mick Jagger have featured her on their
recordings. However she is currently perhaps best known as one of the
main singers in Jools Holland's R&B Orchestra.
