The Stumble

If you’ve seen them before then you will know they are all about live rapturous Chicago style rhythm & blues. If you are new to the band, here is a summary….
The Stumble are a powerful six piece band based in and around Preston in the North-West and what you get is a classic valve driven back line driven with shuffle and roll. Their music is heavily based on the rapturous electric blues guitar sound that emanated from Chicago in the ’50s and ’60s. Influences range from B.B. King, Freddy King, Muddy Waters, Maceo Parker, Peter Green,  Booker T, King Curtis etc. Basically, if music has that screwed down ambient live feel expressed by some of these guys, then it’ll be on the playlist.
Paul Melville vocals, Colin Black guitar and harmonica, Boyd Tonner drums and vocals, Simon Anthony Dixon on sax’s, Cameron Sweetnam on bass, with newcomer Ant Scapens lead guitar making up the formidable six.
Seeing the band is an experience not easily forgotten as they are all about the exciting, live Chicago style Rhythm & Blues. What better reference could any band have than this –

‘Man this band’s so good I wanna take ‘em over to America with me.’ – Lazy Lester.

Paul The Voice Melville
Highly Regarded as one of the UKs best ever blues vocalists Paul has a natural ability to captivate his audience by projecting his ‘soul shouter’ voice to each audience member. His stage presence and passion exudes from every pore in his body, costume changes are frequently required !
“This man could make a Lion purr and his suits are so fine they would make sinatra look like a hobo”

Colin Black
Amazing Guitarist and Harmonica player, clearly inspired by all of the greats from BB King and Peter Green all the way through to Colin James.
He originally played with the Hideaway Blues Band a Glasgow based band that didn’t stay around for long yet still provided some great music for anyone lucky enough to attend one of their performances.  Stevie and Alan Nimmo were two such people and became big fans of Colin’s playing in their formative days.
After leaving Glasgow and heading South in the mid 90s Colin along with Boyd formed the band.

Simon Anthony Dixon
3 time British Blues Awards nominee, Simon clearly gets his inspiration from the 40s and 50s greats like Johnny Hodges, King Curtis, Gaitor Jackson, Doc Sausage, Maceo Parker.
“Rasping, growling, shakin’ and moanin’.  A real must see”.

Boyd Tonnor
Impeccable rhythm and all round creative genius. Boyd was one of the original members that formed the band with Colin in the mid 1990s. He was previously an original member of The Nimmo Brothers band which formed earlier.
As well as drums he is also a fine guitar player and an acomplished songwriter having penned most of the bands releases.

Cameron Sweetnam
Highly regarded and talented, complete with a great musical history Cameron has played with many accomplished names including Slingshot, The Upsetters, Wilko Johnson and Mark Radcliffe.

Ant Scapens
Ant is a long time collaborator with bass player Cameron Sweetnam. He has played guitar in several bands with Cameron including fronting Lancashire based blues trio Slingshot, up-tempo blues and swing band The Upsetters and rhythm and blues band Lights Out.
